MASAMI FAQs

  • The MASAMI Institute

MASAMI, or “truly beautiful” is a reflection of our commitment to bring you the best, most efficacious haircare products and dedication to protecting the natural habitats from which we harvest Mekabu. Our team at The MASAMI INSTITUTE in the Iwate Prefecture of Northeast Japan works with the local fisherman and coastline preservation groups to research, monitor, and document each season’s growth. Our goal is ultimately to preserve and restore the fragile ocean ecosystem, and to educate the world about the importance of maintaining balance in our world.

Masahiro Sasaki, Chairman of the MASAMI INSTITUTE, works closely with Mr. Kazuya Yoshino, Managing Director of The MASAMI INSTITUTE, who moved from Tokyo to Otsuchi in 2011 to help with earthquake and tsunami recovery efforts by starting The Otsuchi Recovery Shashiko Project to provide women who had lost their homes and workplaces in the disaster with work and a place to feel they belong. He has been championing the restoration of the ocean and botanicals through education and documentation.

  • MASAMI - Who Are We?

Hi there! Welcome to MASAMI. We are a premium, natural hair care brand that believes everyone deserves healthy hair. Our mission is to provide toxin-free products for all hair types, derived from the hydrating ocean botanical, Mekabu. Our story is one of love, love for our products, our team and our customers. While we are founded in New York City, our inspiration started in the deep ocean waters of Japan.

  • What is Mekabu?

Mekabu is an ocean botanical that grows in the depths of the ocean off the northeast coast of Japan. It is a nutrient-rich superfood full of minerals, algae and vitamins that, in addition to being edible, provides incredible hydration to reawaken your hair. Ancient Japanese cultures have been using it for centuries and now we are bringing this unique and special ingredient to you.

Our values: Giving back to the Earth, where we source all of our ingredients.

Clean beauty - What does it mean to be a clean beauty brand?

We believe in taking the best of nature and eliminating anything bad. Our formulas are naturally derived, and we source our Mekabu in powder form, directly from Japan, where it is harvested seasonally. We adhere to EU clean beauty standards in all of our formulations.

We believe that when we use a natural resource, we need to replenish it. That’s why we set up The MASAMI INSTITUTE, to help rebalance the ocean ecosystem in northeastern Japan and beyond.

  • What is Your Return Policy?

We know Masami to be the absolute best in haircare. We created it ourselves. However, we know everything isn't for everyone and we want you to be as happy with your hair (and us!) as possible.

If you are unhappy with your purchase, you have 30 days from the date of purchase to return the unused product(s) for a full refund of the purchase price minus shipping, handling, or other service fees. Refunds are credited to the original credit card used for payment.

To initiate the return process, please email us at help@shopbzr.com. If you are shipping items valued over $75, we recommend using a trackable shipping service and purchasing shipping insurance as we are not able to guarantee receipt of your returned item.

  • Where Do I Recycle My MASAMI Packaging?

Our plastic bottles are recyclable in most communities. However, if you're unsure about the recycling policies in your area, you can take your empty bottles to any Target store.

They have a guest recycling station located in the front of each store. The station is available for bottle and can recycling (aluminum, glass and plastic beverage containers), plastic film (high and low density such as plastic bags and bubble wrap), and small device electronics recycling (think MP3 players, GPS devices and ink cartridges).

Torso

Using a soft measuring tape, measure the length of your torso from your shoulder (where a bra strap typically lands) to between your legs (where the inseam of your pant legs meet). If you are over 30" you might prefer Andie long torso fit.

Bust

Stand naturally. Using a soft measuring tape, measure around the fullest part of your bust.

Waist

Bend to one side to find the natural crease in your waist. Stand up straight and measure around from that point all the way around your body.

Hips

Put your heels together. Measure around the fullest part of your hips and bottom (typically it's a bit lower than hip bone, but every body is unique!)

Flat

Flat

Compressive lining
Four-way stretch expands to fit your curves comfortably and hug your smallest measurements
Supportive all around, for a secure fit feeling
Expands slightly in water -- great fabric for wearing in and out of water

Ribbed

Ribbed

Compressive lining with self rib that is more expandable
Four way stretch expands to fit your curves comfortably and hug your smallest measurements
Super flattering with texture stripe elongating and lengthening

Mesh

Mesh

Compressive lining with ultra thin and fast drying mesh self
Stretchy and light
The mesh fabric camouflages bulges, creates a smooth silhouette for the most flattering and athletic look
Quick drying!

Fit

If your torso is 30” or over, we recommend trying a long torso fit.

Using a soft measuring tape, measure the length of your torso from your shoulder (where a bra strap typically lands) to between your legs (where the inseam of your pant legs meet)

Some women know that they have a long torso because one piece swimsuits tend to ride up or dig into the shoulders, or even feel too deeply scooped in the bust. If you are often adjusting the length of the suit (tugging and shifting) you may be a long torso fit!
